Learning Outcome 2 (U21): Be able to create a proposal and pitch for an original media product based on a given brief (P3 & M2)

Pitching the product

Practice pitch

After practicing pitching my idea, I personally think that it was partially successful. This is because I was able to communicate my message clearly with the audience, however, my pitch also lacked any sort of visualisation diagram or colour scheme, although I believe my main weakness was misunderstanding some of the questions that the audience have asked me.

Here is my full Stag Gyms practice pitch, powerpoint presentation in the form of  a slideshow:

Whilst pitching my magazine the first question I was asked was:

"Are you going to conduct research in order to find the best gym in the local area?".
Although I slightly drifted off the main topic of the question during my practice pitch, the answer to this is question is shortly yes, as part of our plan of providing the best content to our consumers we will be conducting research in the form of surveys and short interviews with the public who attend said gyms to find out which ones will be the most beneficial to promote in our magazine.
The second questions I was asked in my pitch was:

"How are you going to get permission from radio stations such as Radio 1 to be featured on our magazine?"
In order to be able to feature radio stations such as Radio 1 in our magazine we wanted to negotiate agreements to be able to cross-promote with said radio stations, meaning that we will advertise their radio station in our magazine in return for the radio to promote our magazine during it's live broadcast; after reflecting upon this question however we found a relatively big issue with this idea, which will be addressed in the next question.

"Are big national corporate identities such as BBC Radio 1 or Capital FM going to be interested in promoting a small magazine such as yourself? Perhaps social media would be a more reasonable method of advertisement?"
After hearing this question I have to admit that I agreed with the client as it made me reconsider the primary marketing method for our magazine. The client is right with the fact that in order for a large national radio station to promote our magazine, we would most likely have to pay them, in effect, this would mean a significant cut into our budget, something that we would most likely want to avoid as a new and upcoming brand. Therefore... yes, we have decided to change our plans and focus more on the social media aspect of marketing, which is mostly budget free and can reach a significantly larger audience.

"What does your magazine look like physically?"
I believe this was noticeably the largest weakness of my presentation, as my presentation lacked any sort of visual material for the audience to be able to imagine the realistic look of the magazine. To answer the question, the magazine will feature a blue, red, orange, black and white colour scheme/house style, as the contrasting colour scheme emphasises the sport genre of the magazine. My articles will also be split in half, with one page featuring a large graphic and advertisement and the other featuring the actual written article.
The last question was:

"What material are you going to use in order to produce your magazine?"
I believe that in the moment i significantly misunderstood this question, as i described the type of paper that I'm going to use to produce my magazine, whilst I'm confident that the client actually meant what type of equipment and personnel I'm going to use. In response to the question, to name a few resources/personnel that we will need to produce our magazine, we will be hiring photographers with all sorts of lighting equipment and high quality cameras to provide us with the highest quality images. These will then go to our graphic designers which will manipulate the images on a computer with Adobe programs such as photoshop and illustrator.
We will also have journalists (either employed or short-term contract) to gather articles for our magazine, which will then be edited by our magazine editors.
