Presenting the Final Pitch for Stag Gyms Magazine
After receiving feedback from my practice pitch I knew everything I need to know in order to make my final pitch as effective and successful as it possibly can be. Previously, one of my main weaknesses was misunderstanding some of the questions the audience have asked me, this time I'm confident that I understood them all and answered them appropriately.
"I feel like there's some safety issues with providing advice to people working out at home. If you're audience is gonna take off the advice from your magazine, how are you going to make sure they stay safe?"
In order to make sure that a part of the audience which works out at home manages to stay safe and avoid injury, we will make sure that we warn the consumer whether a certain workout technique is unsafe to perform at home/without a fitness trainers guidance, we will do this by establishing clear disclaimers in articles where they are necessary/appropriate; this will also help us avoid any legal cases or accusations regarding ethical issues.
Questions
"Part of me feels like the name Stag Gyms sounds like a brand of gyms, e.g. a company, rather than a magazine. Any thoughts on that?"
Although I can see where the client is coming from, as the name of the magazine can be easily misinterpreted as a brand of Gyms, we chose this name in order to stand out from other generic magazine mastheads. Accompanied with the bold logo the title boldly emphasises the energetic and intense aspect of fitness. We also believe that the untraditional and unique look will help us attract the younger bracket of our target audience, and also will give us a diverse brand identity which will stand out from amongst the crowd.
"You obviously mentioned that you want to include a large female audience, which is great as why would you cut out half of the market. Two of the magazines you've shown me show a man on the front cover and gyms and the general topic of fitness is usually associated with a male audience. Have you got any thoughts on making sure you are appealing to your female audience; as well as men?"
We are very aware of the the public image of fitness being painted as being male dominated and focused on men. To disclose the first statement, as I said in my pitch, it's a pure coincidence that two of the front covers had portrayed men, as we were primarily focusing on the design features of mentioned covers and want to avoid any controversial themes. In terms of making sure that we are appealing to a female audience as well as a male audience, we are planning for our magazines to feature a relatively equal ratio between men and women on our front cover. A strategy that we believe will be efficient in making sure this happens includes often featuring a man and a woman together on the front cover.

Slideshow
After receiving feedback from my practice pitch I managed to outline and improve on any weaknesses that my previous PowerPoint presentation portrayed; and in result, produce a fresh and new presentation.
After finding a new approach to our presentation, we decided to focus on the visualisation of the magazine (as this was one of [if not the biggest] weakness of the previous presentation); thus we introduced additions such as the logo of our magazine, colour scheme and detailed front cover & double page spread visualisation diagrams made in Adobe Illustrator with the help of our designers. We also included examples of similar magazines which are the closest to ours in terms of design and aesthetics (including colour scheme, typography and graphics), in order to help the audience imagine our idea as a finished product.
In terms of the presentation itself (rather than the content) we abandoned the previous monotone theme and went with a clear and simple house style, including; a red & black colour scheme, a clear and condensed font and some animations in order to make our presentation more professional.
Full list of changes:
- Changed presentation house style, including typography and colour scheme
- Added a slide featuring visualisation diagrams, with annotation and justified techniques
- Added a slide featuring inspiration, and similar magazines
- Added a slide presenting the logo and colour scheme
- Removed the slide presenting radio stations as a method of marketing
- Added professionally looking animations
