Learning Outcome 1 (U21): Be able to generate ideas for an original media product based on a client brief (P1,M1)

Interpretation of the Client Brief

From the client brief I have interpreted that I am designated to generate ideas for a local, printed and opportunistic magazine; focused around the county of Hertfordshire, which later on may transfer into other neighbouring counties. The Herts Magazine is a newcomer to the market and has provided a relatively broad range of subjects for me to cover and implement into the first edition of their magazine, such as; theatre, music, art and sport. In terms of media, I understand that I will have to produce an online web magazine as well as a physical printed version.

Initial Ideas

From a quick interpretation of the client brief I have acquired a starting list of different generated ideas that I can implement into the first edition of the Herts Magazine,I personally have decided to focus on the sport genre of the magazine, however, I've chosen the music genre as an alternative. By focusing on the sports genre I'm also including fitness and a healthy diet guide.

Key Ideas

  • Hertfordshire Gyms- A sports magazine focused on promoting local gyms accompanied by a healthy diet and lifestyle. My starting point would be the relatively new Pump Gyms located in Hatfield, then I would move on to other gyms located in Watford, Welwyn Garden City and St. Albans. The magazine will feature images of various gyms around the county, guest athletes and fitness trainers as well as advertisements of new products such as pre-workout, protein bars/shakes and equipment (e.g. gloves or resistance bands). All of this will be accompanied by a sports themed colour scheme, made up of colours such as blue, black, red, white and orange.
  • Herts Academies- Another sports magazine focused on the best football academies in hertfordshire and a guide on the journey to becoming a professional footballer. The magazine will feature articles with images of professional football players from hertfordshire and North London, from clubs such as Arsenal or Watford. The colour scheme will be mainly red, black and white while some articles' colour scheme will be related to the club they're representing; e.g. yellow, black and red if the magazine is about the Watford academy.
  • Herts Grime- A music magazine focusing on the collaboration between hertfordshire and the neighbouring city of london in order to promote the rising genre of UK grime. The magazine will include a lot of interviews with big grime artists and articles about upcoming names or popular "tunes". It will either feature images of artists from photoshoots, their music videos or live performances, all combined with a black and white colour scheme, with a base gradient blue colour.

Strengths And Weaknesses

Herts Academies:

Strengths: A large fraction of the county of Hertfordshire is interested in the sport of football, the magazine would attract an older audience consistently interested in football as well as younger passionate individuals inspired to play football professionally in the future. A lot of the academies in hertfordshire also provide great opportunities for female players furthermore equal to that of men.

Weaknesses: The magazine will be very biased towards the sport of football, targeting a relatively specific audience and alienating general audiences

Herts Gyms:

An educational magazine about fitness. The magazine will include articles about best workouts to target specific muscles within varying parts of the body. Furthermore, it will include guides to the creation of the optimal weekly workout routine and best product to fuel your workout or rebuild your muscle soon after.

Strengths: Staying fit is a popular trend in today's society, mostly in terms of teenagers and young adults. A fitness magazine also has potential for a lot of opportunities to cross-promote with healthy eating campaigns or sport facilities.

Weaknesses:
Even though studies have shown that a lot of people attend the gyms nationally and in the local county of hertfordshire, there's still a large chunk of the local population which refuses to be healthy.  therefore it will be hard to target and attract this type of audience without cross promotion.

While a certain fraction of individuals who don't stay active due to not knowing where to start, lack of motivation and/or belief, theres still... (Miss ill finish this)

Herts Grime:

Strengths: The genre of music Grime has been on a drastic rise for the last couple of years. With artists such as AJ Tracy, Stormzy and Aitch making it in the official UK charts, we are looking to combine the new trend with the slightly more cemented trend of reading printed and online magazines.

Weaknesses: Grime got popular via the younger generation of teens and young adults, as they have been proven to be more influential and subject to change. As a result of this,a large chunk of older generations finds this type of music as aggressive and inappropriate. This will make it hard for my magazine to attract this specific audience.

Conclusion

In conclusion, i think that the Herts Gym magazine is my best key idea and will be able to effectively compete in the modern market due to its originality and uniqueness. By developing
